This is the traditional massage offered throughout Thailand. It is often referred to a “yoga” massage, and dates back centuries. The massage uses acupressure, with the masseur, often a woman, using their strength and expertise to manipulate the receiver into a variety of yoga style positions.It is known locally as Nuat Thai and is regulated by the Ministry of Health in Thailand.There are no oils used in this treatment, meaning that the person can remain clothed but often the massage shop will provide loose clothing suitable for the treatment. The customer and the masseuse always remain in close contact, making it a rather personal affair. They will pull and stretch your muscles, with rocking movements to bend the limbs and joints.It can be an exhilarating experience but is not suitable for anyone who cannot handle a bit of discomfort or even pain. The giver will use hands, knuckles, elbows, legs, knees and feet to deliver the massage.Expect your back to be stretched, limbs to be pulled and even your hands and feet to be manipulated.It is a massage that everyone, who is fit enough to be on the receiving end, should try at least once in their lifetime. At the time, you may wish you hadn’t agreed to it but afterwards you will feel the benefits.
